Sen. Kevin Cramer is once again backing a major defense initiative—this time, the proposed “Golden Dome,” a $175 billion missile defense system modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome. The plan calls for a network of early warning systems and space-based interceptors, with North Dakota expected to play a key role through its Space Force Station in Cavalier and satellite operations in Grand Forks. Cramer says existing infrastructure and workforce development make the state central to the project’s success, despite criticism over cost and feasibility.
