When a city’s top law enforcement officer loses the trust of the people he serves, there’s little choice but to start over. Regina’s police chief, Farooq Sheikh, has been fired after an investigation revealed months of inappropriate text messages to a police board member—including during a private meeting about his own contract. The board’s decision, they say, was about restoring public confidence and reinforcing the department’s values of integrity, transparency, and accountability.
