Sheriff seeks pay raises to retain staff
The Ward County Sheriff’s Office is warning it could lose up to a fifth of its patrol staff as deputies weigh higher-paying jobs with the Minot Police Department. Sheriff Robert Roed says the city is actively recruiting and offering $10,000–$20,000 more, while Minot’s chief counters that applicants are simply coming forward through the normal process. The tension highlights both the pay gap and the thin line between recruiting and responding — a distinction that matters as the county debates how to keep its force intact and how the taxpayers who fund both departments afford it. Jill Schramm with Minot Daily News has the full story.
