Tariff escalations trigger another decline in US farm exports to China
America’s farmers are once again caught in the crossfire of a trade fight with China. After tariffs first shifted soybean and corn markets toward South America in 2018 and 2019, a second, broader trade war is now weighing even heavier. Over the past year, U.S. farm exports to China have dropped nearly 40%, with soybeans, beef, and cotton taking the biggest hit. Mexico has now passed China as the top buyer of U.S. crops, while a temporary tariff truce holds until November. Mónica Cordero with Investigate Midwest has the full story.
