North Dakota speed limit increase, higher fines head back to lawmakers
North Dakota drivers may soon see 80 mph signs on the interstate — but they’ll also want to keep an eye on their wallets. House Bill 1298, which would raise the speed limit from 75 to 80, is nearly across the finish line after lawmakers struck a compromise on stiffer speeding fines. The bill now returns for final votes in both chambers before heading to the governor. Supporters say it’s progress; critics worry it’s only half a fix.
