An economic data blackout is about to lift

After six weeks of silence, the nation’s economic pulse is about to be heard again. The longest government shutdown in history has frozen the release of vital statistics — no jobs reports, no inflation data, no GDP growth numbers — leaving economists and investors to guess at the state of the U.S. economy. Now, with a bipartisan deal to reopen the government, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and others are preparing to restart their engines and fill in the blanks left by 42 days of uncertainty.
