Minot Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle; Police Continue Investigation

Minot police have confirmed that a 92-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon in southwest Minot has died from his injuries.

Rollin W. Rogness, of Minot, was crossing the intersection of 31st Avenue SW and 16th Street SW around 2:58 p.m. on July 12 when he was struck by a small SUV. The driver, Jean Marie Nelson, 81, of Stanley, was traveling west on 31st Avenue SW and attempting a left turn onto 16th Street SW when she failed to yield to Rogness in the crosswalk.

According to an initial statement, Rogness was pushed approximately 30 feet and sustained head and other injuries. He was transported to Trinity Hospital by Trinity First Response for treatment of serious injuries but passed away later that day.

Authorities delayed the release of his name to allow time for family notifications.

Nelson was cited at the scene for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The Minot Police Department says the incident remains under investigation as they determine whether additional charges may be filed.
