North Dakota breaks annual tornado record in 2025; damage documented
North Dakota has now crossed into record-breaking territory for tornadoes. A powerful storm system on Sunday pushed the state past its previous high of 61 twisters set in 1999, though the final count is still being confirmed. Tornadoes touched down across several counties, with confirmed EF1 and EF2 strength near Mercer and Denhoff. Damage ranged from homes and barns to widespread tree loss, but no injuries were reported. Heavy rains compounded the storm’s impact, causing flash flooding and breaking a century-old rainfall record in Bismarck. Joey Harris with Bismarck Tribune has the full story.
