SW Manitoba poised for potentially world’s largest carbon capture facility
Carbon removal is moving from theory to test runs on the Prairies, and southwest Manitoba is squarely in the spotlight. After launching a pilot plant near Innisfail, Alberta, Montreal-based Deep Sky is now eyeing Westman for one of the world’s largest direct air capture facilities, a $200 million project that would pull CO₂ from the air and store it deep underground. The company says Manitoba’s rare mix of “fortunate geology” and clean hydro power could make the region a global leader in this emerging climate technology.
