Teens in Oakes transform downtown with new Union Square Park
In a time when many small towns are searching for a spark, Oakes just lit one. What began as a burned-out lot on Main Avenue is now Union Square—a vibrant new park and stage built by the hands of local teens. With help from the wider community and $165,000 raised without burdening downtown businesses, the project became more than a facelift—it became a symbol.
