This college major could improve your critical thinking skills
In an age when technology often does the heavy lifting for our minds, new research suggests an old discipline may still hold the key to sharper thinking: philosophy. A study drawing on data from more than half a million undergraduates found that philosophy majors consistently outperform peers in verbal and logical reasoning, curiosity, and intellectual humility. While they don’t shine in math, their edge in habits of mind and open-mindedness raises a larger question—how those skills carry into life beyond the classroom.
