The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily close or scale back operations at several North Dakota recreation areas beginning May 1, 2025, due to staffing and resource constraints.

In North Dakota, full or partial closures are planned for East Totten Trail, Wolf Creek, Hazelton, Cattail Bay, and Beaver Creek campgrounds. These changes will also affect janitorial services, trash removal, weed control, and general maintenance.

Powerhouse tours at Garrison Dam will be suspended starting mid-May, and reduced staffing will limit safety patrols and facility upkeep during peak weekends.

The Corps emphasized the need for visitors to plan ahead, respect closures, and check site status before traveling. Full refunds will be issued for affected campground reservations made through Recreation.gov.

These adjustments are part of a broader effort to maintain safety and protect critical dam and hydropower operations throughout the Missouri River Basin.
