As nationwide teacher shortage deepens, rural ND school relies on international recruits
In Glen Ullin, a town of just 700 people, the teacher shortage isn’t a headline—it’s daily reality. With only 137 students, the local school has combined grade levels and leaned on international hires from the Philippines and South Africa to keep classrooms staffed. Leaders say the shortage has been building for more than a decade, worsened by fewer young people entering the profession after COVID.
